Substitution assessment, like for like
An alternative to Showa for long disposable PE gloves
Showa Glove is a Japanese glove specialist, established in October 1954 and headquartered in Himeji, Hyogo. Unlike the other brands on this site, it genuinely competes with us on the same materials: its own catalogues list polyethylene and polyolefin single-use gloves and an anti-static PE apron, alongside PVC disposable gloves and a nitrile disposable range.
So this page is not about material substitution. It is about the sourcing model: a branded glove manufacturer selling through distributors, versus a factory manufacturing to your specification under your brand.
The substitution question
A like-for-like comparison, decided by the sourcing model
This is the one page in this set where the products genuinely overlap. Showa's catalogues list polyethylene and polyolefin single-use gloves, a long polyethylene disposable glove and an anti-static PE apron. Its wider range also includes PVC disposable gloves and a nitrile disposable range, and its corporate history records ISO 9001 certification from 2002 and ISO 14001 from 2007, along with Japanese medical device manufacturing and marketing licensing from 2022. None of that is a weakness in its offer, and we would not present it as one: the difference is structural. Showa sells its own brand, while we manufacture for yours. A buyer who needs a recognised glove brand should buy from a brand, and a buyer who is the brand needs a factory. Note on scope: Showa also sells cut-resistant work arm covers, which are reusable work-protection products rather than disposable PE sleeves, so we do not treat them as competing with our disposable sleeve range.
Where the factory model suits you
- You need your own brand, artwork and packaging on the glove
- You want PE or CPE disposables documented for your destination market
- You are the brand and need a manufacturing source rather than another brand
- Private-label programmes where the pack carries your name, not the maker's
- Buyers who want the factory relationship rather than a distribution one
Where a branded glove manufacturer suits you
- You need the Showa brand name itself on the product
- You want a single catalogue spanning PE, PVC and nitrile disposables
- You need coated or reusable work gloves, which we do not make
- You need Japanese medical device registered examination gloves
- You prefer to buy through established glove distribution
Decision sequence
Choosing between a branded glove range and a factory programme
Four questions that determine which sourcing model is correct for you.
Whose name goes on the pack?
If it is the supplier's brand, you need a branded manufacturer. If it is your brand, you need a factory. This single question decides the model in most cases.
Do you need coated or reusable work gloves as well?
A range spanning PE disposables, PVC, nitrile and coated work gloves is best served by a glove specialist. We make disposables only.
Does your market need medical device registration?
If the product must be registered as a medical device in your market, that requirement governs the supplier choice and should be checked directly rather than assumed.
Then compare the commercial and documentation terms
Once the model and the product class are settled, compare specification, documentation for your market, and the commercial basis per SKU.

Not a claim of equivalence in every category. Holding these documents does not make us equivalent to a glove specialist across its whole range. Showa's own published position includes ISO 9001 since 2002 and Japanese medical device licensing that we do not hold. Those are verifiable differences, and a buyer comparing the two should weigh them directly.
Approval path
How a long-glove requirement is resolved
The sequence that establishes the material, the coverage and the document set.
Define the coverage zone
State how far up the forearm protection must reach. Coverage, not glove length in the abstract, is the design input.
Confirm single-use or reusable
This decides whether a disposable factory can supply at all. We will say so directly if the requirement is for a coated work glove.
Select PE or CPE and the pack format
Material behaviour, colour, dispensing and pack presentation are chosen against the task.
Approve samples before bulk
Long-glove fit is difficult to judge from a specification sheet, so a physical sample precedes the order.
Buyer questions
Questions buyers ask about the Showa comparison
These are the questions that distinguish a branded glove manufacturer from a contract disposables factory.
Is Showa Glove a direct competitor of yours?
Yes, and it is the only one of the four brands on this site for which that is true. Showa's own product catalogues list polyethylene and polyolefin single-use gloves, including a polyolefin disposable glove and a long polyethylene disposable glove, as well as an anti-static PE apron. Alongside those it sells PVC disposable gloves and a nitrile disposable range. So this is a genuine like-for-like comparison on PE disposables rather than a comparison across material families.
Then why would a buyer choose you instead of Showa?
Because the sourcing model differs, not the material category. Showa is a Japanese glove manufacturer selling its own brand through distributors. We are a factory that manufactures to a buyer's specification and puts the buyer's brand on the pack. If you need a recognised glove brand, Showa is the appropriate source. If you need your own brand manufactured and documented for your market, that is the case we quote for.
Do you make reusable or coated work gloves?
No. Showa is a glove specialist established in 1954 whose range spans household, work, industrial and medical gloves, including coated and reusable work gloves. We manufacture single-use polyethylene and compostable disposables. Where a task needs a coated work glove that survives repeated use, we are not the supplier for that.
Is Showa Glove publicly listed?
We could not verify its listing status from the sources we consulted, and its own corporate profile does not state an exchange or ticker. We therefore do not describe it as listed or unlisted. We are equally careful not to state another company's certification position beyond what its own published material says, which for Showa is ISO 9001 since 2002, ISO 14001 since 2007, and Japanese medical device manufacturing and marketing licensing.
Do you hold the same medical device licensing as Showa?
No, and the comparison is not like-for-like there. Showa holds a Japanese Class III medical device manufacturing and marketing licence and registers examination gloves as general medical devices in Japan. Our certificates are a BRCGS Consumer Products certificate, ISO 9001, an amfori BSCI social audit and a BPI compostability sublicense. If your market requires medical device registration, check that requirement directly rather than assuming any supplier holds it.
