Substitution, honestly assessed
Chinese manufacturing alternatives to established protective brands
Buyers search for alternatives to Ansell, Kimberly-Clark, Showa and San Jamar for cost and supply flexibility. The useful question is not who is cheaper, but whether the material and approval class you need can be sourced from a Chinese polyethylene and compostable disposables factory at all. For two of these four companies the answer is a clear no.
Each page states both halves: where we are a genuine substitute and where we are not. A supplier claiming to replace all four is not describing your requirement accurately.
Why the comparison is usually wrong
Four brands, four different businesses
These companies are routinely treated as interchangeable. They are not. One is an Australian nitrile and synthetic PPE maker, one is a US tissue and nonwovens corporation that has left the PPE business, one is a Japanese glove specialist that genuinely does make polyethylene disposables, and one is a US foodservice equipment group. Only one of the four overlaps with us on like-for-like products.

Ansell alternative for food-safe gloves
Ansell Limited is an Australian protective-solutions group (ASX: ANN) whose verified single-use materials are nitrile and synthetic blends. It competes with us on single-use gloves in a different material tier, and it is not a polyethylene substitute.

Kimberly-Clark alternative for latex-free gloves
Kimberly-Clark sold its entire PPE business in 2024, so it no longer makes gloves. We answer the latex-free material question, because our gloves contain no natural rubber latex, and we correct the premise of the comparison.

Showa alternative for extra-long gloves
Showa Glove is a Japanese glove specialist established in 1954, and this is the one genuine like-for-like comparison: its own catalogue lists polyethylene single-use gloves and a PE apron alongside PVC and nitrile disposables.

San Jamar alternative for private-label PE gloves
San Jamar is a US foodservice brand whose site now redirects to CFS Brands. It is not a disposable-glove maker: its disposable-glove catalogue items are dispensers, and its own gloves are reusable. We are complementary here, not competing.
Read the assessment →How we describe other companies. Every statement about the named brands on this page is drawn from that company's own published information, its regulatory filings or its product catalogue, and is limited to company identity, product category and material family. We publish no competitor pricing, performance specification or market-share claim. Product ranges change, so check the brand's own current material before relying on any comparison.
Decision sequence
How to decide whether a Chinese PE factory fits
Work through these four questions in order. The first usually settles the decision without needing a price comparison.
What protection class does the task require?
Certified examination, chemical-protection or high-dexterity industrial gloves sit in the nitrile, synthetic and coated-fabric families. A polyethylene film glove is a barrier for light-duty, short-wear tasks. If your task needs the first group, a PE factory is the wrong source and no price advantage changes that.
Is the glove changed frequently during the shift?
Frequent change is where polyethylene disposables are strongest: low unit cost per change, no laundering, and a fresh barrier each time. If a glove must survive hours of abrasion, a disposable film glove is the wrong choice.
Does the product touch food directly?
Then food-contact evidence matters more than the brand on the box. Ask for migration test reports for the exact material and destination market, not a generic certificate badge.
Do you need your own brand on the pack?
A brand sells you their brand. A factory sells you the ability to put yours on it. If private label is the goal, the sourcing question changes from which brand to which factory.
Routes that match
Product routes that cover the overlapping requirement
These are the ranges where a PE and compostable disposables manufacturer genuinely competes.

Our own evidence, for the same evaluation you apply to any brand
A comparison is only useful if our side is checkable too. These are third-party documents with numbers and dates.
| Document | Reference | Status |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 9001 quality management | 77067/A/0001/UK/En | Valid to 25 July 2028 |
| BRCGS Consumer Products | CN-BRCCP-251634 (Issue 4, Foundation Level) | Valid to 22 December 2026; scope names PE gloves, aprons, sleeves and bags |
| amfori BSCI social audit | Bureau Veritas, July 2025, overall rating B | Monitoring valid to 16 July 2027 |

Scope limit. ISO 9001 and BRCGS are factory-system documents. They describe the manufacturing system, not an approval of every product. Product-level evidence is requested per SKU.
Approval path
What happens after you send a requirement
A comparison page cannot confirm fit. This sequence resolves it against your actual specification.
State the task and the protection class
Tell us the work, the wear duration and whether food contact or chemical exposure is involved. If a PE glove is unsuitable we will say so at this step rather than quoting.
Confirm material and format
We propose PE, CPE, TPE or POE grades and a short, long or extended-cuff format, with sample availability and lead time.
Match documents to your market
Food-contact migration reports, declarations and certificates are selected against the destination market and the exact SKU.
Approve samples, then scale
Bulk production follows written confirmation of specification, packaging and documents, with the commercial basis recorded per SKU.
Buyer questions
Questions buyers ask when comparing a factory against a brand
These are the questions that decide whether a factory-direct route is appropriate.
Are you claiming to replace Ansell, Kimberly-Clark, Showa or San Jamar?
No, and the four are not comparable. Showa is the one genuine like-for-like competitor, because it makes polyethylene single-use gloves and a PE apron. Ansell competes on single-use gloves in nitrile and synthetic materials, a different tier. Kimberly-Clark left the PPE business in 2024 and no longer makes gloves. San Jamar sells glove dispensers and reusable gloves, so it is complementary to us rather than competing.
Why publish an assessment that rules us out in places?
Because a comparison claiming universal equivalence is not usable in an approval file. Stating the boundaries lets a buyer reach a defensible decision, and it saves both sides a quotation round on a product we should not be quoting for.
Does a Chinese factory certificate carry the same weight as a brand's?
Certificates are issued by named bodies with numbers and scope, so they are checked on their content rather than on the brand name. Our BRCGS, ISO 9001, amfori BSCI and BPI documents are listed with references so you can verify them independently.
What is the minimum order for a private-label trial?
The published reference is a USD 3,000 starting commercial value per SKU, with samples in approximately 7 days. The resulting units depend on material, dimensions and packaging, and the basis is confirmed in writing per SKU.
Tell us the task, not the brand
Describe the work, the wear duration and the destination market. We will say whether a PE or compostable disposable fits, and send the documents that decide it.
